What makes touch controls feel right

May 27, 2026 · Lukas Berger

Touch controls are the thing we notice first and complain about most. A great game with mushy controls gets abandoned; a simple game with crisp controls gets replayed for months.

The biggest factor is input leniency. A tiny window of forgiveness on taps and swipes makes everything feel responsive, even though the player never sees the trick happening.

Button placement matters almost as much. On a phone your thumbs cover part of the screen, so important controls need to sit where your hands already rest, not where a UI designer thought looked tidy.

When a game nails these basics, like the arcade challenges in Casinacho Games do, you stop thinking about the controls entirely and just play. That's the whole goal.
